Milwaukee Tech Hub Initiative (MTH)

The MTH vision is for the greater Milwaukee region to be nationally ranked home for people to thrive within a vibrant community built on innovation and technology. Tech dependent industries contributed $27.6B in regional economic impact in 2017. It is critical that the emerging workforce has the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to thrive in this new economy. The mission of STEM forward is well aligned to this vision. Please refer to the Milwaukee Tech Hub – K12 Educator Resources page to find resources about the initiative as well as how to connect to additional programs that will help you embed technological literacy and/or computer science into the classroom.


Project Lead The Way

Wisconsin Project Lead The Way is a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for K-12 students and teachers across the nation. PLTW's activity-, project-, and problem-based (APB) instructional design centers on hands-on, real-world activities, projects, and problems that help students understand how the knowledge and skills they develop in the classroom may be applied in everyday life. PTLW's programs include the following:


Wisconsin FIRST

FIRST is a nonprofit organizations that designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills. Wisconsin FIRST programs and events are organized by several groups throughout Wisconsin. Here you can find information about the FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition.


VEX IQ is a robotics platform designed to transform STEM learning for young students and their teachers. Students can jump right in and snap robots together using this intuitive tool-less system. Educators can utilize free VEX IQ Curriculum to help teach valuable lessons and skills needed in today’s changing world.


The Badger State Science and Engineering Fair encourages students to define a problem or concept, to conduct research in support of a solution, and to explain their findings to experts in that field.  Students gain valuable skills in research and public speaking that will help them in their chosen field.


The NFPA Fluid Power Challenge is a series of math and science competitions designed to connect today’s students to tomorrow’s fluid power careers.  Middle school, high school and college students – there is a Challenge for you! The Challenge is an interactive way to introduce students to the fascinating world of hydraulics, pneumatics, and engineering, and can help put them on the path to a rewarding career in fluid power.

Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction offers resources aimed to support schools and districts in their search for funding for STEM and related programs.


Wisconsin STEM Navigators

More than two dozen states have initiated STEM-related plans in recent years.  They are led variously by governors, universities, technical colleges, state education departments, workforce development partners, industry associations and public/private partnerships. Our call to action is for everyone concerned about the future of Wisconsin’s economic prosperity, our education competitiveness, and our ability to sustain career opportunities for future generations to get involved by becoming a learner and champion for STEM in your local school and community.
