Gearing up to Teach Engineering

Most tasks are easier said than done. Teaching engineering is no different. Here, educators will briefly cover the what, why, and how of making an active introductory level project. We will break into teams and provide a motor and a set of gears. The goal is to design an efficient lifting mechanism using gears in an iterative manner. Educators will get first-hand experience going through a simple activity. Attendees will come away with a beginning-to-end example of an introductory engineering activity, a checklist of elements that make engineering relatable, and tips for keeping students engaged.
