The STEAM Academy is designed for all present fifth to eighth-grade students in southeastern Wisconsin (private, parochial, charter, public, home schooled, and online-students). The main goal of the Academy’s staff is to motivate students to enroll in more challenging science, math, engineering, art and technology classes in high school (such as IB and AP). This will allow them to be better prepared to follow STEAM careers during their post high school education at colleges, universities, technical schools, or other educational institutions.

Fifth and sixth-grade students will use the scientific method and state-of-the-art technology to determine the cause of a mysterious illness that is affecting the inhabitants of a Colorado town. Seventh and eighth-grade students will experience a simulated “Mission to Mars” where the students encounter strange crystalline creatures and use the scientific method, their math and problem-solving skills, and state-of-the-art technology to determine how to safely return these creatures back to Earth.

The Academy will run for two consecutive, one-week sessions this summer during the last two weeks of July (several classes during each session).

NEW 9th Grade STEAM Camps

The focus of this summer program will be to design, create, test, and market a new, sustainable product. Students will be exposed to state-of-the-art technology through the assistance of the Racine Creative Center who will be collaborating with the Academy during the pilot. Hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite, virtual reality, and commercial photography will be incorporated into the class. Visits to commercial firms in the Racine/Milwaukee area will add to the student’s experience. As with all STEAM Academies, students will develop team building skills and make many new friends during the course of the week.
