The Transform Milwaukee Initiative is a comprehensive, public-private initiative that seeks to leverage Milwaukee’s workforce, industrial strengths and transportation assets to expand community investments, increase business development, boost job creation and strengthen neighborhoods. Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) contracted with a consultant team, led by GRAEF, to develop a 10-year Strategic Action Plan focusing on economic development in the five industrial corridors that comprise the Transform Milwaukee area (the “5 Core Areas”) – The Corridor, Riverworks, Menomonee Valley, Harbor District, and Aerotropolis. This presentation will focus on the Strategic Action Plan, currently in a final state and set to be released in 2015.
The GRAEF Planning and Urban Design Group facilitated the Consultant Team comprised of Gruen Gruen + Associates, HNTB, Mueller Communications, Parsons Brinckerhoff, and Prism Technical. The Consultant Team collaboratively fashioned an action-heavy Plan based on a) the pre-defined 5 Key Strategies for the Initiative, b) community and business desires, c) recommendations from 60+ past plans, and d) expert knowledge of Milwaukee and the southeastern Wisconsin region.
