The National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) Fluid Power Action Challenge is a competition that instructs middle school students to solve an engineering problem using Fluid Power. Students work in teams to design and build a Fluid Power machine, and then compete with other teams in a timed competition.
This two-day competition provides middle school students with hands-on learning, teamwork, problem-solving and perseverance. Day one is Workshop Day, where students learn more about the competition and Fluid Power. They will be given a simple mechanism to build, and instructions and materials to work on their own design for the following five or more weeks. Then, they come back for Challenge Day, where they rebuild their mechanism and compete against teams.
