Day of STEM.png

Our Day of STEM program connects local schools with area businesses to bring STEM professionals directly into the classroom. Individual volunteers or employee teams are prepared with tailored content and visit schools on a scheduled day to share their career experiences, lead hands-on activities, and engage students in meaningful discussions about STEM pathways. By serving as role models, volunteers help students explore the wide range of STEM careers available to them. We’re happy to work with you to customize a Day of STEM experience that meets your goals and needs.

Consider signing up to bring STEM professionals into your classroom or volunteering your time by completing the appropriate form below.

FOR EDUCATORS

We have three unique partnerships with organizations that bring STEM experiences to your school, including hands-on activities.

1) Wisconsin DNR Wildlife Activity: Grades 5-12 (Groups of 10-30) Students learn about careers in wildlife conservation and how Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources staff protect animals and habitats in Wisconsin. The activity includes hands-on identification with furs, feathers, skulls, tracks, and even fake scat. Standard sessions are 40-50 minutes, but can be adjusted to 20-60 minutes.

2) SEWRPC Activities: Grades 2-8 The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC) is proud to partner with the M7 region, representing Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha counties, to bring two interactive learning experiences that highlight the role of planning and innovation in our communities. These activities give students the chance to explore real-world concepts while strengthening their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Both activities can be set up directly in your classroom and scheduled for back-to-back groups. Sessions are ideal at 45–50 minutes, but can be adjusted to 25–60 minutes.

  1. Grades 2–6: City Planning Model
Students take on the role of city planners, collaborating in small groups to design and build their own cities.

  2. Grades 4–8: Floodplain Model
Students explore how land use affects water flow by experimenting with a floodplain model and seeing firsthand the impact of planning decisions.

3) MATC Mobile STEM Lab: Grades 4-8

Bring the field trip experience right to your school! Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Mobile STEM Lab will roll up to your campus in the greater Milwaukee area to deliver a hands-on automation demonstration for your students. You will need a 15' x 25' off-street space, like a parking lot, playground, or side lot, for the lab to park. Groups of 10–12 students can take part in an interactive, 10–25-minute learning adventure.
